The Star Wifi Power Pack is a great value solution for anyone looking to use a receipt printer on a wireless network. Requiring very little setup, the Wifi Power Pack connects to almost any existing Ethernet printer to give it wireless networking capabilities. It is ideal for retailers using tablet/iPad Point of Sale apps such as Vend.
The Power Pack consist of two main components, a TP Link Wireless N Nano router and Star’s DK-USB connector which provides power for the router via your printer’s cash drawer port. The TP Link Nano router offers a variety of wireless connectivity modes, including Access Point and Client. It can be easily configured to connect to an existing wireless network and operates at speeds up to 150Mbps.
Meanwhile, the DK-USB adapter features a drawer pass-through so your cash drawer will still open each time a receipt prints. It is designed for DC input of 24V with a 1A fuse, which is the standard for the cash drawer port on most receipt printers. The adapter outputs at 5V/500mA, meaning it can even be used to charge devices such as tablets or phones when the printer/router is not in use. The adapter is also protected against short circuits.
Designed to be as compact as possible, the Wifi Power Pack can be easily mounted on the rear of a printer with a little double-sided tape so as to take up an absolute minimum of space. Certain printers will accommodate the unit within their base.
A perfect companion for any Star Ethernet printer, the Wifi Power Pack will also work with most Ethernet printers from other manufacturers. If your printer’s cash drawer port is incompatible, the router can still be powered using a standard USB mains adapter.
